Similar to previous show opens from earlier editions of Telemundo’s Olympic coverage, this open demonstrated Velazquez’s push to begin incorporating more use of talent that could crossover by name recognition to audiences in both languages.

With the Spanish language marketplace increasingly growing in bilinguals, Velazquez realized that the push to engage audiences had to be more expanded.

His team presented many options but really pushed for Gael Garcia Bernal, actor from Y Tu Mama Tambien, Amores Perros, Coco, The Motorcycle Diaries, Babel and Marvel’s Werewolf By Night to be the narrator of this project.

The accompanying video, which incorporated high end clips and green screen material with Team USA stars provided by NBC Olympics, was intended to merge fandoms, and create a selling proposition of universality in the events to be covered and the storied that would be told.
